Building Department
We review building plans for construction, issue all construction and renovation permits and inspect all construction and renovation work. The Planning and Zoning Commission within the department hears appeals on violations of city codes or ordinances. All jobs related to construction (new construction and/or renovations) within the city limits of Southside must be permitted. The permits may be classified as Residential or Commercial. The types of permits that require an inspection are listed as follows:
The City of Southside employs two Building Inspectors who are responsible for inspecting construction work associated with all permitted jobs. The Inspectors also have the following responsibilities:
The City of Southside is a growing community. Due to the high volume of construction, we ask that you make any inspection requests at least 6 to 8 hours in advance. The Building Department The Building Department strives to provide the best possible service to our residents to assure protection of life, health and welfare in the City of Southside by enforcement of City codes and ordinances. The Building Department assists residents with all aspects of home improvement, remodeling and new construction projects. We assist contractors in obtaining City licenses and necessary permits. It is the responsibility of every contractor, plumber, electrician, heating and air contractor and irrigation contractor to obtain a permit before they begin work in the City of Southside. For your protection, we suggest you verify that your contractor has a permit to assure your project will be inspected for Code compliance. The Building Department is responsible for issuance of Building Permits and for inspecting all commercial and residential construction within the city limits of Southside. The Building Inspectors are also responsible for enforcing city ordinances and investigating citizen’s complaints dealing with all types of nuisance violations. |
