About Southside

        ABOUT SOUTHSIDE

The Mission Statement of the City of Southside is to provide exceptional public services to residents, businesses, and guests so they may experience a safe, healthy and thriving community.

Incorporated in 1957, the City of Southside has been described as the, “Loveliest Village on the Coosa.” Today, it is the fastest growing city in Etowah County, yet continues to maintain its quintessential ‘bedroom community’ reputation.  From river-front property homes, to rural farmland - and everything in between - our vibrant community is diverse and beautiful, sprawled out as it is between Green Mountain and the Coosa River.

Southside boasts a handful of notable family owned restaurants where Southern hospitality is a given.  As for our local businesses, community patronage and appreciation is assured.  Along with a steady increase in population, there has been continual growth in economy, the real estate market, and healthcare systems; each benefitting our residents’ quality of life.

The City of Southside takes great pride in our schools, which are part of the Etowah County School System. Southside High School is the largest school in the Etowah County School System, serving over 600 students in grades 9-12. The students come from the communities of Southside and Rainbow City. Southside Elementary and Southside High School are local; Rainbow Middle School is but a short trip across the Southside Bridge.

A vast majority of Southside is bordered by the Coosa River, making wildlife viewing, boating, and fishing a favored past-time. Located within six miles, Silver Lakes, Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail offers visitors a golfing paradise.
